A Puppy Cake Smash Session – Indianapolis Pet Photography

Are you ready for cuteness overload?! Well meet my pup – Rosie the Miniature Labradoodle.
If you haven’t heard the back story on how Rosie came to join our family then you can read that here.

Being an Indianapolis cake smash photographer I have the pleasure of photographing lots of 1st birthdays. Since Rosie turned one last Friday it only seemed fit to do a puppy cake smash session.

We started with some birthday pictures, then added a cake (don’t worry, it was puppy friendly and safe), and finally let her best friend join in on the fun.

To say Rosie enjoyed herself would be an understatement. Happy Birthday Rosie. Mom and Dad love you more and more every day!

Yes – I do know I’m a crazy dog person. I hope Rosie made you smile.

12 Highlights from KristeeenMarie Photography in 2013

2013 has been a great year – both personally and professionally. Before I talk about all the fun things going on around here I want to send a heartfelt thank you to all of my clients. None of this would have been possible without each and everyone of you. I’m truly blessed to be doing what I love and getting to meet and work with so many amazing families. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your business, support, and kind words.

So here we go: 12 Highlights for KristeenMarie Photography in 2013. Let’s start with #12…

12 – Fun with Families – In 2013 I had the opportunity to do 37 child and family sessions. This includes all of my first year “Grow with Me” clients. I love all of my clients, but the “Grow with Me” clients have a very special place in my heart. There is something so fun about being able to watch and capture kids growing. I look forward to meeting new families in 2014 so please reach out if you are looking for an Indianapolis family photographer!

11 – Corporate Photography Fun – In 2013 I did 5 corporate photography sessions. But beyond that I started offering a fun new type of corporate photography – lifestyle headshots. It’s a headshot, but it’s taken in your natural environment (not in front of a solid backdrop) to better tell your story. I’m super excited to do more of these sessions in 2014. So if you are looking for corporate headshots in Indianapolis – let me know!

10- Engaged! – I had 19 engagement sessions in 2013. Each session was different and unique to match each couple’s personality.

9 – Beautiful Baby Bellies – In 2013 I had the wonderful opportunity to do 8 maternity sessions. Look at all those beautiful baby bellies. These little kiddos were all deeply loved before they were even born. If you are having a baby in 2014 be sure to schedule your Indianapolis maternity photography session!

8 – A Love of Learning – I’ve learned and grown so much in the last year as a photographer. In part that was due to two workshops I took this year. One was with Jessica Vaughn Photography and the other with Jen Sherrick Photography. Both of these business owners we great to work with and helped me learn and grow in my photography journey.

Workshops and mentoring

7 – Who says you can’t have your cake and eat it too?! These kids sure did. – First birthday cake smash sessions are a blast. I take great pride in designing custom backdrops for each child’s birthday theme or color scheme. The set-ups have become more and more elaborate. I now even work with a local cake designer to design cakes to match the set-ups. I hope to do even more of these in 2014 so let me know if you would like to book a Indianapolis cake smash session.

6 – New Branding – Back in April I updated my logo, watermark and website.

KristeenMarie Photography Logo5 – A Proposal – This isn’t the only proposal that I captured, but it’s the only one this year I had the opportunity to photograph. There is something so very special about having this moment captured on camera! There is so much love and emotion. This couple was so very sweet too. Now I can’t wait for their wedding. I feel as if I’m following along on their journey.

Proposal in Indianapolis4 – A little less traditional but no less special – This year I photographed my first same sex couples.

Kris and Nick were a BLAST to work with. They were full of energy and personality. I’m super excited for their wedding!

A few weeks after I did the above engagement session I also had the opportunity to work with these three lovely ladies. <3

3 – Here Comes the Bride – In 2013 I had the opportunity to photograph 10 weddings. It’s was such a joy to be able to capture and tell the love story for all of these lovely people.

2 – Newborn Babies: And Lots of Them! – I love all the different types of photography that I do – weddings, engagements, families, etc. However if I had to pick a very favorite it would be newborn photography. So to tell you that I photographed 40 newborn babies in 2013 makes me very happy! There is no such thing as too many newborns sessions so if you or someone you know is expecting and looking to do newborn photography in Westfield be sure to reach out!

1 – The Studio – While there was a ton that has happened in 2013 my favorite would have to be my studio! The studio is on the ground level of my home (but it has direct access to the outside so clients aren’t in my living space). I LOVE my studio. It makes newborn sessions so much easier and so far my clients I’ve had in the studio have loved it too.

And as a bonus. In case you missed it, I thought I would share with you my biggest personal highlight from the year. I’m engaged (to the man of my dreams – Drew) and I have a sweet puppy (Rosie).

My Engagement Story – This Wedding Photographer is Going to be a Bride

I’m engaged! And I have a puppy! And I’m going to marry the most amazing guy I know!

newly engaged couple

I don’t normally tell super personal stories on my professional/photography blog, but I’m so excited I can’t help but share it with everyone. Don’t worry, I also have some fun pictures to go along with the story.

The back story…
I was getting ready to move into Drew’s (my fiancé – that still sounds really weird) house. I really wanted to be engaged before I moved in, but I had already resigned to the fact that wasn’t going to happen. The timelines weren’t matching up. My lease was up sooner than expected, subleasing was outrageously expensive and I am too logical to justify the added expense. So I was getting ready to move in.

How it went down…
I was heading over to Drew’s place the day before move-in. It was just a normal Friday night until I walked in the front door and heard music playing. I thought it was odd, but didn’t think much about it. I was looking around the house for Drew. I turned the corner to his kitchen and I found him there on one knee with a ring. I was shocked and so excited! Drew was shaking (literally shaking). I had never seen him so nervous.

He asked if I would marry him and of course I said “YES!”.

Then we were hugging, kissing, and shedding a few tears. That is when I felt the dog at my feet.

I asked Drew “Is there a dog in here?”

He responded “Yes, I thought you would see the dog first.”

Drew had gotten me a puppy and a ring! Did I mention I was also moving in the next day!? To say it was a big weekend for me would be an understatement.

After the proposal we went to Drew’s parent’s house for a cookout/party. There were a number of friends and family there that I got to tell the exciting news to in person including my mom and sister.

Rosie the Puppy

About the puppy…
If you know Drew you know that he is the biggest Butler Basketball fan you ever met (no joke –THE BIGGEST). So the debate between the two of us has always been what type of dog to get. He really wanted a bulldog (because of Butler and because he grew up with them) and I really wanted a lab (I grew up with labs and love them so much). So I always said the compromise should be an Australian Labradoodle.

Turns out Drew agreed and that is how we ended up with a Labradoodle. Drew took a half day of work on Friday and went to a breeder in West Lafayette to pick up Rosie (our new puppy).

Rosie was named after a Butler Basketball player – Roosevelt Jones #21. Even though Drew didn’t get his bulldog he still got his Butler Basketball influence.

So far Rosie has been an AMAZING dog. She is 3 months old and was already house and crate trained before we got her. She is sweet and affectionate and a little shy when it comes to new things but she loves people – kids, adults, anyone!

If anyone is in the market for a puppy Rosie has a little sister that is still for sale.

My story comes to an end with a little something for you…

I want to share my excitement with you. So anyone who books an engagement session in the next two months (now through Aug. 31st) will receive $50 off your session. When you message me to book a session just let me know that you read my engagement story. Lex and Rich – Indianapolis Engagement Photography

Lex and Rich are good friends of mine. Lex is one of the first friends I made when I moved to Indy about 5 years ago and  she is also the reason I met Drew (my significant other). So when they asked me to do their engagement pictures I couldn’t have been more excited.

Happy New Year & Thank YOU from your Favorite Indianapolis Photographer

Wow – what a year! A lot has changed in the last year – I got a new job, I moved, and my photography business took off!

I just counted, and in 2012 I did 76 shoots (that includes weddings)! Just to put that into perspective that is an average of almost 1.5 shoots per week. My work was also published in 8 different publications! Did I mention I also have a full-time (non-photography related) job?

The goal here is not to toot my own horn, but to say THANK YOU to all my wonderful clients out there. KristeenMarie Photography wouldn’t be where it is with out every single one of my clients. I appreciate all of your support, kind words, and most of all your business.

While 2012 was amazing I’m excited to say that it looks like 2013 has the potential to be even better. For 2013, I’ve already got 10 weddings on the calendar (I’m limiting my wedding schedule this year to only two wedding per month) and a handful of newborns. I’m also planning on putting a big focus on learning – I’m doing this through mentorships and workshops. I also see a re-branding in the near future. I couldn’t be more excited.

Alright, I’m done rambling. I’m going to leave you with two more things…

1 – Thank you, thank you, thank you to all my clients – past, present, and future! I can’t say this enough.
My Indianapolis photography business wouldn’t be what it is today without you!

2 – I can’t write a blog post and not put a few pictures in it! Here are a few out takes from 2012. 🙂

Dad and his Dogs – Indianapolis Pet Photography

My dad is a pretty awesome guy, but he doesn’t really like to have his picture taken. He may not love having pictures of himself, but he does love having picture of his dogs!

When I was home a few weekends ago my Dad and I went out to the lake for pictures of the dogs. I did get lots of great pictures of the dogs. However, my favorite picture of the series is this one of my Dad with both of his dogs. The picture shows off the playful spirit of all three of them.

The other two ‘guys’ in the picture are Otis and Rufus (my childhood dogs). What is not to love about this image?!

For the Love of Cancer – Indianapolis Photoshoot Silent Auction

grandma Cancer kills one American ever minute. That is over a half of million Americans ever year! It is just a statistic until it hits you or someone you know personally. Just about everyone out there has had their life affected by cancer in some way or another. I’m no exception, my grandmother was killed by cancer a little over 7 years ago. You can see my Grandma and Gradpa with me at my high school graduation to the right. Now, in my Grandmother’s name, I’m doing a little to help the cause…

On July 28, 2012 there will be a dinner and silent auction hosted by the Cancer Action Network. During this event one of my photography sessions (newborn, child & family, or engagement session) will be raffled off. All profits from the auction will benefit the Cancer Action Network.  If you are interested in the event you can purchase your tickets here.
