I Don’t Do Senior Photography…

I’m going to start this blog post off by saying bluntly…. I don’t do senior photography. No need to email me to ask, I’m telling you right now, I don’t accept senior clients – sorry!

However, for this lovely lady, I made an exception to my no senior photography rule. Here is why… This beautiful young lady is my “Little Sister.”

When I moved to Indy after graduating from Purdue I wanted to get involved in the community. So I joined Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana. Soon after joining I was matched with this beautiful girl. She looked a lot different than she does now. She was in 6th grade and going though a rough patch in her life. She was dealing with things in her young life that I still have a hard time understanding.

Throughout our 7 year friendship we have done many activities together and had many conversations. We have had many dinners together – both cooking at my house and going out. We have a yearly tradition of painting pottery at Christmas time. We have seen a number of plays and sporting events together. She has left countless number of selfies and kind notes on my phone. She was a part of my wedding and was at my home soon after I had baby Jack.

I’ve had the joy of watching this girl grow from a little girl into a confident, hard working, caring, and mature young lady. I don’t want to take any credit for the beautiful young lady that she has turned into, but I do hope that all of the time we have spent together, that I’ve been a positive influence in her life. I’m so proud of the young lady that this girl has become and I know that she is going to go places in her life!!

These pictures aren’t just for this girl to keep, they are also for me to remember this time. To remember this young lady. To remember all the deep conversations we have had. To remember that there is more to life then the daily grind. To remember friends are found in unlikely places. To remember that even though we have different background we are more alike the we are different. To remember how much I have in life. To remember how important it is to give back. To remember that as much as I wanted to help this young lady she has surely helped me more then I’ve helped her.

We asked a random walker if he would take our picture… Yes I handed my fancy camera to a stranger. It may not be the best picture ever, but I’m glad we have it! BBBS of Central Indiana - Match

Love you, girl!! Even though we are graduating from Big Brothers Big Sisters this year, you will always be my little sister!
