Carmel Indiana Creek Side Minis – Summer 2018

creek side pictures in Carmel, IN

You guys asked to see these again so here they are! I’m so excited to do these sessions again because they were so much fun last year!! The creek side mini sessions will take place in Carmel Indiana. An exact meeting location will be sent closer to the date of the session. These session are great for your active kiddos who just want to have fun! I recommend families with kids that can sit up well on their own (8+ months old). We will get a picture of everyone looking and smiling at the camera but the majority of the session will be playing and having fun. Last year most of the kids didn’t want to leave the creek when we were done with the session and I don’t blame them. It’s so much fun to play in the water! This session can be for the whole family (no extended families please), for mom and kids, or just the kids. You can even bring the fur babies too, if you would like.

Session includes:

  • 20 minutes of shooting time
  • Session will take place in Carmel, IN
  • At least 15 digital files delivered via online gallery
  • Pets are invited to participate in the session
  • Immediate family only
  • This is not a great session for families with children under 8 months old
  • Cost is $275 – $50 discount for past clients

Session dates are as follows:

  • Aug 15th – Sunset – Weeknight
    6:00 – 6:30 – 7:00 – 7:30 – 8:00pm
  • Aug 18th – Sunrise – Weekend
    7:00 – 7:30 – 8:00 – 8:30 – 9:00am

If you would like to book one of these times you can do so here! I hope to see you this Summer!!

Why we switched from ShootQ to Dubsado and 5 ways this has helped our business

ShootQ VS Dubsado for photographersSome of you may recognize my name and others may not, but please allow me to introduce myself- I’m Beth, Kristeen’s assistant and studio manager.  I am the person working behind the scenes for Kristeen.  I help her coordinate her schedules, stay on top of her email inbox, work with clients to design albums and canvas prints, and other special projects that Kristeen needs done while she is trying to multitask being a top Indianapolis photographer, a fantastic momma, and a wonderful wife!  While I was a bit scared when Kristeen told me that she wanted to switch client management softwares (knowing that this was going to be a great deal of work for me, lol) I cannot tell you how happy I have been with the entire process and how thankful I am that we are now working with Dubsado.  I wanted to take the time today to share with you some insights on how this has impacted my work with Kristeen, us as a company, and you as the client!

If you are a past client and have booked a session with Kristeen lately, you may have noticed that the emails and client invoices look a little different.  This is because we recently switched over to new client management software called: Dubsado.  For many years, we were using software called ShootQ, and while it met a lot of our needs, there were many different aspects of the client experience that we wanted to improve upon and in this digital age, ShootQ just really was not keeping up.

Before switching to Dubsado we did a lot of research on the best CRM tool for the job. There are a surprising number of tools out there for photographers. We looking into Honey Book, Iris, Studio Ninja, and a few more. There were a lot of good tools out there. Some of them do some things better then others. However, we were looking for something that was strong in terms of client communications, low payment processing fees, completely customizeable contracts for clients,  a branded client experience, and easy to use for both us (as the business owner and our clients). Dubsado checked all the boxes here. Something that I also love about it is that Dubasdo is constantly being updated with new features. Unlike ShootQ I don’t have to transition to a new software in order to get new features. Moving to Dubsado was a huge investment in terms of time and energy but I’m confident we made the right decision for the business.

We wanted to take the time to share with you the top five reasons how switching from ShootQ to Dubsado has helped our business.

  1. The layout is pleasing to the eyes.  When using previous software, we would have to go back and forth between different screens to see all of the information that we needed in order to correctly correspond with a client.  In Dubsado, our chain of emails with the client are all in the same place and we do not have to use the back button to move to and from different emails.
  2. Help is always a button click away.  The people that work at Dubsado are always just a button click away, and most of the time it only takes as long as it takes to type my question to get an answer.  The answers are very thorough too and if for some reason they are away from the helpdesk, it shows me an approximate time when they will return and respond to my question or request.
  3. Mobile Friendly Website.  While I am going to be over the moon excited when Dubsado releases an app, if I really get into a bind and I need to respond or send something to a client before I get back to my laptop, I can log on to Dubsado from my phone and the mobile version of the site is pretty user friendly.  It is easy to navigate and I always know where I am going and what I am trying to do; and can get it done in a jiffy.  This is also very helpful for clients that need or want to respond to emails, sign contracts, view or pay an invoice on the go as well.
  4. Emails seem more personable.  I know it may seem small, but I feel like now that Kristeen’s picture is in every email that we send, it helps clients connect with her as a person.  It shows that there is a face behind the name and that we are not just some random person behind the computer screen or camera.  The emails can be tailored and personalized and these little touches can go a long way
  5. The possibilities are endless.  Even though we have only been a subscriber of Dubsado for a few short months, we feel like each month, the site and the features keep getting better.  They are also continuing to partner with other sites and integrate more components into the website as well. When a company tells you that changes are on the horizon and then keeps telling you that week after week and month after month, with no changes being seen, it gets old really fast.  Dubsado sticks to their word!

All in all, we have been very happy with the transition and switch from ShootQ to Dubsado.  We hope that this has increased your client experience with KristeenMarie Photography as well because well, we want nothing but SPECTACULAR customer service for our clients!

If you are a photographer and looking into different photographer CRMs you should really consider Dubsado! They are constantly improving and updating their system and I can’t say enough good things about them. Check out Dubsado here – you won’t regret it!! If you do end up checking it out feel free to use my referral code for 20% off your first purchase. The code is “kmphoto”.

New Styling Service Included In All Sessions

styling service included in every photography session - Indianapolis photographerHey guys – I have some exciting news!! Now with every session you book it will also include a free styling service. I’m so excited to include this for my sessions. You are going to love this new tool. It completely takes the headache out of picking outfits for your sessions. Here is how it works…

After you book your session I’ll send you a link to the tool along with your access code – that will allow you to use the tool for free! Once logged in you then answer a few questions. These questions include things like how many people are in your family and what size do they wear, what type of look are you going for (traditional, formal, Boho, Hipster, etc), and what type of color scheme you are going for.

styling service screenshot

You answer these few questions and then you will be given lots of clothing options for each person. Something nice about the options is that there isn’t an overwhelming number of choices and there are so many good options at affordable prices!! All the options will take you to links for each product. You can just click the item or items that you want and it brings you right to the shop so you can look at it further if you would like!

little girl cloting options

You then select an option for each person in the family and then it will show you all your results. You can then email the results (to me or yourself) and purchase the items.

Family outfits

It’s that easy! I hope you love and utilize this new tool to help make your life easier when shopping for outfits for your next shoot. The tool can be used for all sessions – family, newborn (no need to get an outfit for baby but you can find cute outfits for mom, dad and sibling(s)), milestone, or whatever!

The tool is constantly being updated with new clothing and it’s season specific (so it’s probably too early to start shopping for your Fall session now). So if you don’t find the perfect outfit today check back in a week and you might find the perfect ensemble. If you have a session booked with me and have not received info about this, let me know and I’ll send it your way. If we don’t have a date on the calendar for an Indianapolis family photography session yet, let me know that as well and we can get something on the books. If you have any questions along the way don’t hesitate to reach out. I would love to help you look your best and feel comfortable on the day of your session.

A Long Overdue Introduction – Meet Beth Our Studio Manager

From Kristeen: A while back (it’s been over two years ago now), I found that my business was taking over my life. I felt overwhelmed and stressed out. It wasn’t the picture part of the business that I was overwhelmed with. It was everything else… writing blog content, sending/creating invoices, responding quickly to new inquires, etc.

I’m also a wife, and a mom to a two year old and those “jobs” are so important to me that I needed to be able to prioritize those jobs.  Almost two years ago, I was out to dinner with some friends (we have a monthly girls night where we all meet for dinner at a local restaurant) and I was talking about my business and how I really needed someone to edit my blog posts for me.  Afterwards, my friend Beth reached out to me and told me that she would be interested in helping me do this and the rest is history.  Editing blog posts, turned it to booking client sessions, working with clients to design albums and canvas prints, and so much more. Seriously – she does so much for me at this point I don’t know what I would do without her!! She knows my business inside and out (sometimes better then I do!). She can’t take or edit pictures but she can do just about everything else. I can’t believe it has taken me this long to do a formal introduction of her!! If you are a client of mine chances are, you have probably been in contact with Beth and I thought that it is about time that I introduce her- so without further ado, our studio manager here at KristeenMarie Photography, Beth!

Beth - Photography Studio Manager

From Beth: Hey everyone!  I’m Beth, Kristeen’s assistant and studio manager and I am so thankful each and every day that Kristeen has given me the opportunity to do this for the past couple years and join her on this journey.  I love that I get to see all of the beautiful pictures that she takes of  all of the wonderful families that she works with and that I get to sometimes work with those families too, when it comes to ordering albums or prints or even sometimes scheduling different photo sessions.  When I am not working with Kristeen, you can find me working with children and families at a local Catholic Church as well as working with couples as a Wedding Coordinator. I’m married and I’m a dog mom to our rescue pup, Chopper. Kristeen and I have been friends for many years and I have always admired her drive and determination, so to be able to work by her side is really such a pleasure and an honor for me.

5 Things I Learned at the Reset Conference in Indianapolis

This year I attended the Reset Conference in Downtown Indianapolis. Since I am an Indianapolis photographer I was super excited about this conference since it was hosted in Indianapolis!! It was a good time and I even learned a few things! A huge thank you to all the speakers who opened up their hearts and their businesses to share with others.

Here are my top take-aways from the conference:

  1. Perfect Isn’t Always Best.
I was truly inspired by Spanki Mill‘s story on how she came to be where she is at today. I won’t even try to retell the story because I won’t do it justice! However, one point she made in telling her personal story is that it’s not all the technical things that make a picture perfect. It’s the emotion behind the image that determines the image’s true value. I’m guilty of trying to make client’s images technically perfect all the time. I’m a type-A, hard working, overachiever it’s in my nature to try to make EVERYTHING perfect. I try to shoot my clients in the perfect location, with the perfect light, and help them to have the perfect outfits, and I use all my technical knowledge to make the image technically perfect. I think all this stuff is great but her point was that sometimes you have to think outside the box to get the image that really makes your heart skip a beat. It’s okay to experiment during a shoot to find that light that might not be technically perfect, but that in the end will enlist more emotion – more feeling. It’s okay to shoot at a location that has meaning to your client even if it doesn’t look like it’s straight out of a magazine. Just shoot for your clients and don’t look back! I’ve always loved Spanki’s work and now I love her as a person too. If you don’t follow her – you should!
  2. As A Photographer I Can Do Video Too.
Tylor from The Herrintons gave a crash course on video for photographers. I’ve always loved video and you have probably seen me dabbling on it here and there. However, he explained how other photographers are using it to help their business and provide a great service for their clients. Stay tuned for even more video from me! I can’t wait. 🙂
  3. Your Clients Don’t Know What They Want – You Have To Show Them.
I had the pleasure of doing two shoots with Sarah-Beth Photography. I did one with her outdoors and one with her in her studio. She does lovely consistent work both in her studio and outdoors. She has a very specific look – especially in her studio. You won’t see any posed newborn sessions with her. She explained how she wasn’t a fan of posed newborn sessions so she found a way that she enjoyed shooting newborns and she shot it consistently and showed her clients. Now clients want what she is doing because they can see it and know they will get a consistent specific look. Don’t worry – I don’t plan to shoot only lifestyle newborn sessions anytime soon. My point is, if there is something I want to shoot I have the freedom to do that and it’s likely I will still find clients who want what I’m offering.
  4. I Am Not Alone.
Being a photographer can be lonely at times. Unlike when I had a corporate job, I can’t take 10 minute breaks and go talk to coworkers in the break room. However, at the conference I was able to catch up with old photographer friends and even got to meet some new ones! I do have to be more intentional about keeping on top of these friendships. But it doesn’t take much to twist my arm to go out to lunch with a fellow photographer!
  5. Experience is Everything.
Doug Weittenhiller of Twig + Olive Photography showed us his client experience from start to finish. It was an impressive experience! I like to think my clients have a good experience with me and that is why they keep coming back. But even though something is good doesn’t mean it can’t be better. He gave me some great practica ideas on what can be done to improve client experience. Stay tuned for some new client experience upgrades!

Below are some of the pictures I took while watching Sarah from Sarah-Beth Photography work. We did both an outdoor shoot on the circle in Downtown Indianapolis and also in her studio.

2nd Birthday Paint Smash – Jack is Two!

I can’t believe my baby is two!! These last few years have flown by. It’s been such a joy to watch this sweet boy grow up. I wouldn’t trade these last two years for ANYTHING. I’m so grateful for this sweet boy.

To celebrate Jack’s 2nd birthday we decided to do a paint smash (instead of a cake smash like he did on his first birthday). To say Jack loved it would be an understatement! He loves arts and painting in general. However when you make the canvas life size it’s even better!! Jack had so much fun painting while I was shooting away. At one point (after I had already taken a good 300 pictures) I told Jack we were all done. In response he told me “no Mommy more cheese!” I’m not sure where this came from because I don’t tell him to say cheese, but I thought it was so stinking cute.  When we were done he did throw a fit because he really didn’t want to be done. But it was a fun memory and it led to some great pictures.

15 Highlights in 2017 from KristeenMarie Photography – Indianapolis Photographer

I want to start this post off by saying THANK YOU to each and every one of my clients. This has been a great year for me both personally and professionally. I am no longer suffering from lack of sleep from having a newborn in the house and I feel like while I grow as a photographer during every session I finally have a sense of confidence that each session will be different and better then the last. I adore being able to capture this time in your lives. I appreciate that you trust in me to do this for you! Please know that I adore watching your family grow and I hope to continue to work with you and your family for many years to come. This year include 229 sessions (whoa!) and each and every one was special to me! Thank you – thank you – thank you!

15. Many Milestone Memories – 32 Studio Milestone Sessions

One thing that I adore about my job is getting to meet new clients and then being able to watch those children and families grow. Most of these milestone sessions below started in my studio as a newborn client. I just love watching little babies grow into toddles and then families growing from one to two + kiddos. So much fun! If you are looking for a child photographer in Indianapolis just let me know. I would love to have your little on in the studio!

14. Big Beautiful Baby Bumps – 13 Bumps Captured

One of the most beautiful things about having a baby is being pregnant. I think being pregnant is stunning on every woman and I just adore capturing this time in the lives of parents.

13. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana

Big Brothers Big Sisters has played a huge role in my life and I believe I’ve had an impact on my ‘little sister’ too. For those of you who don’t know, I’ve volunteered with BBBS for the last 8 years. I’ve been matched with the same little sister the whole time. Well this year was an INCREDIBLE year for me because my little sister graduated from high school and started college!!! These is a huge feat for her and I couldn’t be prouder!!! This year, BBBS also asked me to do a shoot for them to use for promotional material. I was honored to be able to do this for them! If you are looking to give back in 2018 (and beyond) you should seriously check out BBBS program in Indianapolis. It’s an incredible organization making a difference in the lives of so many children.

12. I started offering video.

I’ve dabbled in videos for a few years now. However, this year I finally took the leap and started offering it as a product. Can I tell you how much I love these videos?! They tell a story even more than pictures alone. Right now I offer video as an add-on for birth, Fresh 48, and cake smash sessions. I really could write a whole blog post about these videos (if only there were more hours in the day!). For now, you can check out some of the videos below:

11. Families – 49 Family Sessions
I know I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again. One thing that I cherish about my job is getting to build relationships with families and being able to photograph them year after year. Most of these families that I’ve photographed in the last year have been clients of mine in the past. Some of them have been clients for 6+ years! I love new clients too, but I hope to turn them into forever clients. I love watching families grown from one kiddo to 3+ kiddos. I love watching your children grow from tiny babies to beautiful school aged beauties. Thank you for allowing me to capture your growing and changing families! Let me know if you are looking for an Indianapolis family photographer!

10. Messy Munchkins – 28 Cake Smash Session

There is no better way to celebrate a 1st birthday then with a cake smash session! I love creating these custom sets for each baby that comes to the studio. There were so many fun themes this year… we had everything from Cookie Monster to Christmas Elves and everything in between.

9. My Messy Munchkin

I feel this one deserves a call-out of it’s own because MY little munchkin turned one! I had a lot of fun with his cake smash session to match his nursery theme. You can see the whole session here. The behind the scenes video for this session (at the end of the post) is comical. Only the photographer’s kid would make me work this hard.

8. My Moments – Taking out the Big Camera
Every year, I say I’m going to be better about photographing my own family. Well, I’m not going to say there is any lack of pictures of my little guy and my family. But most of them are not using the big camera. However, I did take it out a few times this year and I love all the images. Here is to next year… to taking the camera out to photograph my family even more.
My family...
7. Happy New Year! – Jack and Ada
Alright – I promise, this is the last personal note. But I can’t help but share these pictures. On New Year’s Eve I did a shoot with my son Jack and his bestie Ada who was sleeping over. These two had SO much fun playing in the studio with the balloons. When they had been in there for over a half hour and we said all done my son lost it and did not want to stop. I think the pictures from the session are priceless. I may have to do this same thing for clients next year at New Years.

6. Once in a Lifetime Shots – 5 Proposals Captured
My heart still races each time I get to capture a proposal for a lucky lady out there! Not every guy goes above and beyond to hire a professional photographer for this big event, but the ones that do are extra special in my book! Guys take note… if you are going to propose give me a call as I would love to be your Indianapolis proposal photographer!

5. First comes love then come MARRIAGE

In this season of my life I’ve found that I needed to significantly cut back on the number of weddings that I shoot each year. This year I held my ground, and only shot 6 wedding and it was AMAZING! I feel like the weddings that I did shoot were a good fit for me and I was able to spend the time needed to give each couple the dedicated, personalized time they deserved from a wedding photographer. It was a great wedding season and I can’t wait until next year. So let me know if you need an Indianapolis wedding photographer. I’m still only taking on a very limited number of weddings in 2018. I want to make sure that every couple I work with is a good fit (both ways) and that I can give them the time they need and deserve!

 4. Add-On Sessions – 4 Sessions
A lot of clients don’t know that they can add-on to their newborn sessions. If you book a full in-studio newborn session with me you can add-on an in-home lifestyle session or an outdoor newborn session (only in the summer months). These sessions always make my heart happy and keep my creativity flowing! I’m changing my pricing around in 2018 to make these add-on sessions even more affordable too. I hope to see even more clients utilize them next year!
add-on newborn photography sessions
 3. Fresh 48 Sessions – 8 Fresh Babes Photographed
I know birth photography isn’t for everyone. But those who want to capture those moments in the hospital but aren’t conformable with a photographer being there for the birth, choose to do a Fresh 48 session. These sessions are almost as magical as birth sessions! They are also super fun when older siblings get to meet their baby sibling for the first time.

2. Birth Photography – 6 Beautiful Babies
It’s no secret that I LOVE photographing births. If you talk to me about births in person you know how passionate I am about it. You know that I don’t mind one bit putting my life on hold so that I can see a new little baby take it’s first breath. I’ll re-arrange my travel schedule and child care schedule and my whatever to be there for a client’s big entry into the world. I know birth photography isn’t for everyone, but for those who choose to capture this time it leads to some incredible images! There is so much love and emotion in that delivery room to capture. This year I had the joy of capturing 6 beautiful babies enter into this world. Being an Indianapolis birth photographer is one of the biggest joys of my job!

1. Newborn Studio Sessions – 60 Newborn Sessions

Cuddling, posing, and loving on newborn babies brings me so much joy! I treasure each and every one of these tiny little clients! I feel honored that so many people allow me to capture this time in their little one’s life.

I can’t say it enough… Thank you to all my clients for making this another great year. I love capturing your families. Being an Indianapolis photographer is a great joy!

Creek Side Mini Sessions – Summer 2017

So last week my old college roommate and I took our boys to visit a local creek and let the boys play. Since we are both photographers we decided to take pictures too. It was so much fun and I’m obsessed with how the pictures turned out! The light was beautiful and the boys had fun. So I wanted to offer this up to you guys as mini sessions.

These images are super casual. You will want to come prepared to get wet and play in the rocks, sand and water! We might get a few pictures of everyone looking at the camera but the goal of the session is to capture everyone playing and interacting at this beautiful location!

Best Places to Shop for Clothing for Your Family Pictures

where to shop for clothing for photography sessionYou may have seen my recent post on tips to look your best for your outdoor photography session. This is kind of a continuation of that post. This list of stores will help you out when shopping for any type of outdoor photography session – engagement, maternity, or family photography sessions.

I’m by no means an expert on this topic, but here are my recommendations. These are places I like to shop and that my clients have purchased clothing from. When purchasing outfits for you session be sure to try to follow the guidelines I’ve outlined in my previous what to wear for family pictures post.

Zara – This is my favorite place for little boy clothes. They have great suspender pants and adorable neutral toned clothes. They also have cute little girl clothes too. Seriously everything is cute.

H&M – Great shop for kids and dad. You can get all the staples here and a items with a little flair (like the adorable boys pants with built in suspenders – seriously adorable!). Their clothes run big so be sure to size down for pictures.

Madewell – Women’s clothing beautifully made. These are clothes you invest in, but they will last you. Some of my favorite wardrobe staples/favorites are from here.

Rylee And Cru – The clothes here have an earthy natural feel. There use great textures and fabrics. They also have lines for mom + baby so less work is needed on your end.

Blush Fashion Street Couture – If you want to dress your session up a bit here are some great options for women. I love the tulle skirts (I bought one from here for my maternity session), sequence shirts/dresses, and maxi dresses.

Boden – You can dress the whole family in Boden (but it’s a bit expensive) but the kids stuff is especially cute. Be sure the check the clearance section for dresses for mom.

Anthropologie – This is a great place to shop for women. They have some visually interesting clothing with great textures. Be sure to check the sales section as it can by pricey.

Joyfolie – So much beautiful stuff here for girls and women. Be sure to check out the shoes too!

Borrowed Boutique – Did you know you can rent designer kids clothing for a fraction of the cost of buying it?! The best part is that the rental boutique is right here in Indy (Fishers) so you don’t even have to pay shipping costs. If this is the route you want to go let me know as I have a small discount you can use. The have clothes for boys and girls. The little girls dresses are to die for!!

Rent the Runway – This is similar to Borrowed Boutique, but Rent the Runway is for women (not kids). If you want a designer dress without the designer price tag you can always rent a dress for your session. This is a tad risky since you won’t be able to try it on. However, the risk could pay off big! Twice a year Rent the Runway sells their used dresses. You can get some stunning dresses at a great price. Even though the dresses are used they are still in great condition.

The Zionsville Flower Company –  If you are looking for fresh flowers for your hair or a flower halo/crown be sure to call the Zionsville Flower Company. They offer crowns and hair pieces. Fresh flowers add a lovely whimsical feel to a photo session! The average cost for a flower crown is $42. However, contact them directly for more info and pricing.
