Planning a cake smash session in Indianapolis? As an Indianapolis cake smash photographer, I specialize in creating one-of-a-kind, fully custom setups for each baby. From themed backdrops to coordinating cakes and balloon arches, every detail is designed around your child’s outfit and personality.
A lot happens before a cake gets smashed.
It All Starts with the Outfit
The process starts weeks before the session. I always ask parents to send me a photo of their baby’s outfit at least three weeks before our session date. That picture is the starting point. It tells me everything I need to know about the vibe and the color tones.
Why a Photo Matters
Why a photo and not just a description? Because “pink and blue” can mean anything. Jewel tones, pastels, earthy shades—they each need a totally different setup. I want everything to coordinate perfectly.
As an Indianapolis photographer, I’ve seen every color combo you can imagine. A photo makes all the difference.
Inspiration, Not Imitation
For this session, mom sent over a photo of her baby girl’s mermaid outfit—and wow, it was stunning. She also shared a few inspiration photos to help communicate what she liked. That was helpful, but I didn’t copy someone else’s setup. I created something unique and custom for her daughter.
That’s one of my favorite parts about being an Indianapolis cake smash photographer—each session is built from scratch for your baby.
The Setup Build
I designed the backdrop to match her colors—teal, purple, and pink. Then I built the balloon arch with metallic balloons to give it a little pop. I also made custom mermaid props using foam and printed vinyl. There’s even a little behind-the-scenes video of me cutting the foam by hand!
Don’t Forget the Cake
Finally, I picked up a custom cake to match the setup. I always coordinate the cake colors and style with the outfit and backdrop so everything works together.
If you’re looking for an Indianapolis cake smash photographer who handles all the details—this is it.
It’s a Lot of Work—But It’s Worth It
A lot of work goes into these cake smash sessions—but every detail matters. It’s worth it. These setups are creative, custom, and made just for your baby.
