As an Indianapolis newborn photographer with years of experience, I’ve developed a workflow that works. It’s structured, consistent, and designed to keep newborn sessions smooth and stress-free for everyone—especially baby.
Every family who books a session with me gets a pre-session questionnaire. This helps me understand what they’re looking for—specific colors, family heirlooms, poses, or anything meaningful they want to include. That way, when they arrive at my Indianapolis studio, we’re already on the same page.
Even with that personalization, I still work through a set posing order. It’s taken years to refine this system, and it helps ensure I cover everything—from sleepy posed shots to close-ups and family images—while baby stays content.
But sometimes, it’s worth breaking that routine.
This recent session was a perfect example. Mom and Dad came in with matching sentimental tattoos they wanted featured in their newborn photos. I loved that idea. It meant rethinking a few poses and stepping outside my normal flow—but it was so worth it.
We worked together to create images that highlighted their connection and told their story. It made the session feel more personal and unique.
These are the moments that keep my job fresh. I love being challenged with new ideas and creative requests. As an experienced newborn photographer in Indianapolis, I’m always ready to adapt when it means capturing something meaningful for a family.
So yes—I have a workflow, and it’s there for a reason. But I also believe that the best sessions are the ones that blend structure with a little flexibility.
Because sometimes, the magic happens when you step off the script.
