Some sessions feel like a little adventure.
This family session at 100 Acres Park was exactly that. We walked. We explored. We stopped when the light looked good. Then we let the kids be kids.
And honestly, that is one of my favorite ways to photograph families.
As an Indianapolis family photographer, I am always looking for locations that give families space to move. 100 Acres Park is such a beautiful spot for that. It has tall grasses, wooded paths, open fields, water views, and so many little pockets of pretty light.
It gives a session a lot of variety without needing to drive to multiple locations.
That said, bring your walking shoes.
This park is big.
Why I Love 100 Acres Park for Family Photos
100 Acres Park is a great option for outdoor family photos in Indianapolis. There are quiet trails, tall grasses, wide open spaces, and a beautiful lake area.
Because there is so much variety, we can create several different looks in one session. We can start with classic family portraits in the grasses. Then we can move into sibling photos, parent photos, playful images, and a few sweet moments near the water.
I also love that kids have room to move here.
And that matters.
Kids usually do better when they are not stuck standing in one spot for too long. At 100 Acres Park, they can walk, run, snuggle, explore, and take little breaks as needed.
A Mix of Posed and Playful Photos
I always try to get at least one photo where everyone is smiling at the camera.
Parents want that one. Grandparents want that one. Holiday cards want that one.
But the images I usually love most are the ones in between.
The way dad tossed his little one in the air. The way mom held her girls close. The way the sisters wrapped their arms around each other. The way everyone walked together by the water.
Those are the images that show the season your family is in right now.
And with little kids, there is always a lot happening.
That is not a bad thing.
Actually, it is usually where the best images come from.
What to Know Before Booking a Session at 100 Acres Park
100 Acres Park is beautiful, but it does require some walking.
So, this is not the location where I would recommend brand-new shoes, uncomfortable heels, or outfits that are hard to move in. Cute and comfortable is the goal here.
For little kids, I recommend bringing snacks, water, and shoes that are easy to walk in between photo spots. We can always take shoes off or change quickly once we get where we are going.
Also, because this location has so much variety, timing matters. The light changes fast, and I will guide you through where to go and when.
You do not need to know the best spots.
That is my job.
A Beautiful Location for Indianapolis Family Photos
This session was such a good reminder that family photos do not have to be perfect to be beautiful.
Kids can run. Toddlers can need breaks. Someone can be silly. Someone can need a snack.
That is all normal.
My job as an Indianapolis family photographer is to guide the session while still making space for your family to be yourselves.
At 100 Acres Park, there is plenty of room for that.
So, if you are looking for an outdoor family photo location in Indianapolis with lots of variety, 100 Acres Park is a beautiful option.
Just make sure you bring your walking shoes.
