One thing parents notice almost immediately when they walk into my studio? It’s warm. Like… really warm.
I keep my newborn studio around 80+ degrees during sessions, and yes, there’s a reason for it.
Newborn babies are used to being cozy and warm 24/7 before they enter the world. Once they arrive, they still crave that same comfort. A warm studio helps babies stay sleepy, relaxed, and comfortable during their session. It also helps tremendously when babies are wrapped lightly or photographed in simple setups without bulky clothing.
Honestly, most babies settle better in a warm environment. They sleep deeper. They startle less. And overall, the session tends to move much more smoothly because baby stays comfortable.
Now parents? That’s another story.
Most moms and dads walk in wearing jeans and sweatshirts and immediately realize they may have overdressed a little. I always keep a fan available for parent use, and I absolutely recommend bringing a change of cooler clothes if you tend to get warm easily.
Especially dads. Dads are almost always the first ones sweating.
The warm studio is completely intentional though. Every part of my newborn workflow is designed around keeping babies calm, safe, and comfortable first. The cozy temperature is just one small piece of that process.
And honestly? Once parents see how relaxed their baby is during the session, the warm studio suddenly makes a whole lot more sense.
