One of the best parts of being a photographer for many years is getting to watch families grow.
I first met many of these kiddos as newborns. Now they are big sisters with their own personalities, big smiles, silly faces, and plenty of opinions. And soon, they will be welcoming another baby into the family.
That will never get old for me.
This maternity session took place at Central Park in Carmel, Indiana, and it was the perfect location for this crew. It gave us tall grasses, trails, a bridge, water, open sky, and lots of space for the kids to move.
And with three little girls involved, space to move is always a good thing.
Maternity Photos That Include the Whole Family
When families think about maternity photos, they often picture quiet images of mom holding her baby bump.
And yes, I love those images.
But for growing families, maternity photos are also about the kids who are already here. It is about the way they hug mom’s belly. It is about the toddler who wants to be held. It is about the big sisters who are excited, curious, silly, and maybe a little unsure about another baby joining the family.
That is all part of the story.
For this session, we made sure to photograph mom by herself. Then, we added in dad, the girls, and lots of real family moments in between.
There were sweet snuggles. There were walking photos. There were goofy kid portraits. There were quiet images by the water. And, of course, there were a few moments where the kids got to just be kids.

Why Central Park in Carmel Works So Well for Maternity Sessions
Central Park is one of my favorite Carmel locations for family-centered maternity photography because it has so many different looks in one place.
The tall grasses are soft and natural. The bridge adds a little structure. The water gives us a clean, open backdrop. Then, as the sun starts to drop, the sky adds a calm, pretty finish to the session.
It is also a great location for families with younger children.
Kids can walk. They can explore. They can take little breaks. And, when they need a minute, we can shift the session without making everything feel forced.
That matters.
Maternity photos with kids do not have to be stiff. In fact, they are usually better when they are not.
A Session Before Everything Changes Again
There is something special about photographing a family right before a new baby arrives.
This is the last little chapter before the next one begins.
Soon, there will be another baby in their arms. Another newborn to snuggle. Another sibling relationship to watch grow. Another tiny person added to the beautiful chaos of family life.
But right now, these photos show this season.
Three girls. Two parents. One baby on the way. And a whole lot of love already waiting.
